Sports USA 未分类“Make America Great Again” or MAGA is an American political slogan which was popularized by Donald Trump during his successful 2016 presidential campaign. The slogan became a pop culture phenomenon, seeing widespread use and spawning numerous variants in the arts, entertainment and politics, being used by those who support and oppose the presidency of Donald Trump.
Since its popularization in the 2010s, the slogan has been accused by some of being a loaded phrase. Multiple journalists, scholars, and commentators have called the slogan racist, regarding it as dog-whistle politics and coded language. Some have rejected the racist characterization, saying that the slogan is instead patriotic or American nationalist.
In December 2011, Trump made a statement in which he said he was unwilling to rule out running as a presidential candidate in the future, explaining “I must leave all of my options open because, above all else, we must make America great again.” Also in December 2011, he published a book using as a subtitle the similar phrase “Making America #1 Again” – which in a 2015 reissue was changed to “Make America Great Again!”

On January 1, 2012, a group of Trump supporters filed paperwork with the Texas Secretary of State’s office to create the “Make America Great Again Party”, which would have allowed Trump to be that party’s nominee if he had decided to become a third-party candidate in the 2012 presidential election. Trump himself began using the slogan formally on November 7, 2012, the day after Barack Obama won his reelection against Mitt Romney. By his own account, Trump first considered “We Will Make America Great”, but did not feel like it had the right “ring” to it. “Make America Great” was his next slogan idea, but upon further reflection, he felt that it was a slight to America because it implied that America was never great. After selecting “Make America Great Again”, Trump immediately had an attorney register it. (Trump later said he was unaware of Reagan’s use in 1980 until 2015, but noted that “he didn’t trademark it.”) On November 12 he signed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office requesting exclusive rights to use the slogan for political purposes. It was registered as a service mark on July 14, 2015, after Trump formally began his 2016 presidential campaign and demonstrated that he was using the slogan for the purpose stated on the application. Trump used the slogan in public as early as August 2013, in an interview with Jonathan Karl.
During the 2016 campaign, Trump often used the slogan, especially by wearing hats emblazoned with the phrase in white letters, which soon became popular among his supporters. The slogan was so important to the campaign that at one point it spent more on making the hats – sold for $25 each on its website – than on polling, consultants, or television commercials. Millions were sold, and Trump estimated that counterfeit versions outnumbered the real hat ten to one. “… but it was a slogan, and every time somebody buys one, that’s an advertisement.”

Following Trump’s election, the website of his presidential transition was established at greatagain.gov. Trump said in 2017 and 2018 that the slogan of his 2020 reelection campaign would be “Keep America Great” and he sought to trademark it. However, Trump’s 2020 campaign continued to use the “Make America Great Again” slogan. Trump’s vice president, Mike Pence, used the phrase “make America great again, again” in his 2020 Republican National Convention speech, garnering ridicule and comparisons to the catchphrase “again-again” from Teletubbies. In late 2021, this phrase became the name of a pro-Trump Super-PAC, which was also mocked.
A 2020 executive order, titled “Promoting Beautiful Federal Civic Architecture,” was nicknamed “Make Federal Buildings Beautiful Again” by proponents and the press.
Less than a week after Trump left office, he spoke to advisors about possibly establishing a third party, which he suggested might be named either the “Patriot Party” or “Make America Great Again Party”. In his first few days out of office, he also supported Arizona state party chairwoman Kelli Ward, who likewise called for the creation of a “MAGA Party”. In late January 2021, the former president viewed the proposed MAGA Party as leverage to prevent Republican senators from voting to convict him during the Senate impeachment trial, and to field challengers to Republicans who voted for his impeachment in the House.
The phrase is being used again as the official slogan of Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

China is following the shooting incident at the campaign rally of former US President Donald Trump. President Xi Jinping has expressed his sympathies to former President Trump, China’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.Former US President said he was shot in the right ear on Saturday local time at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident is being investigated as an attempted assassination of the former president and presumptive Republican nominee, the AP reported, citing law enforcement officials. The suspected shooter is dead and an attendee was killed. Two other attendees are critically injured. Trump’s campaign says he is “fine” after being whisked off the stage and was checked out at a local medical facility, according to the media report. the gunman did not have a criminal history reflected in Pennsylvania’s public court records, and officials said they had not identified a motive. A voter-registration record showed that Crooks was registered as a Republican, though federal campaign-finance records show he donated $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project, a liberal voter turnout group, through the Democratic donation platform ActBlue in January 2021. US media reported that this year’s presidential election would have been the first he was old enough to vote in.v
Political violence
There is no doubt that the identity and background of the gunman who attacked Trump is being closely watched by the public. The gunman’s background has three possibilities,”First, it could be someone from the deep state, an elusive force within the government that does not want to see Trump win. Second, it could be from the far-left extremist forces, who do not want to see Trump, representing the far-right, win the election and thus have taken radical actions. Lastly, it could be an individual extremist without any organizational background, simply a person who is tired of Trump,” Li said.”If the shooting was an organized act, then there is no doubt that this incident was premeditated. If it was the work of an individual extremist, then it was likely random. We now must wait for the results of the investigation from the US authorities,” Li added.A CNN analysis said that “the attempted assassination, which opens a dark new chapter in America’s cursed story of political violence, shook a nation already deeply estranged during one of the most tense periods of its modern history.”Some Chinese experts said it is not uncommon for a sitting president, presidential candidate, and other political figure to be the subject of attack, shooting, or assassination throughout American history. “This indicates that political violence has been a persistent element in American history. On the other hand, the fact that such malicious incidents still occur at political rallies attended by former president, despite security measures, highlights the ongoing rampant gun violence issue in the US and the seeming ‘intractability’ of the problem,In recent years, American politics has shifted from mutual opposition based on political stances to a politics of personal vendetta, Diao noted. “This kind of revenge politics, manifested through violence, is a clear indicator of this shift.” On the other hand, it underscores that this election is a showdown between the former president and the current president, essentially a clash between two different visions of America. This confrontation further tears apart American society and incites more violent outbursts, Diao said. Chinese netizens have been gripped by the shocking incident, with relevant topics trending on Chinese social media sites such as X-like platform Weibo and Xiaohongshu. They said the incident shows that the US democracy is in deep trouble, as the country will be more divided. Some predict that Trump might face more assassination attempts in the future, because Trump’s enemies within the US political system or extreme anti-Trump activists have to recognize that after the recent controversial presidential debate and the shooting incident, they have almost no chance to beat Trump by other legal means like election or court case, and then some will choose the more risky and extreme measure to attack him.
Toxic atmosphere
Some experts said that this shooting incident is reminiscent of the 1972 shooting of Democratic presidential candidate George Wallace. “The current chaos in the US is somewhat reminiscent of the turmoil from the late 1960s to the early 1970s, The expert believes that this incident may strengthen Trump’s campaign edge, especially given the image of him with blood coming from his right ear yet still raising his fist while being escorted away by security. “The Republican Party will likely work to portray it as a heroic moment for Trump,” said Lü, noting that the Republican Party will emphasize that Trump remained undeterred and will continue to hold rallies.”In the midst of relentless mutual accusations and personal attacks between the two elderly candidates, a toxic atmosphere is continuously building up. In such a poisonous environment, it is not hard to imagine one or even more violent incidents occurring,” Lü said. As the campaign approaches its final four months, all parties will intensify their efforts to create momentum, leading to an increasingly heated election atmosphere. Especially in crucial swing states like Pennsylvania, there will be more rallies and promotional activities. Additionally, there will be more instances of presidential candidates interacting with the public and making appearances at public events, experts said. Top Trump aides said the former president will still attend the Republican convention, which is scheduled to begin on Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Trump is scheduled to formally accept his party’s nomination and deliver remarks on Thursday night, according to US media reports. “The notion that a shooting incident will necessarily benefit the candidate who was shot is not a given. Whether the shot presidential candidate gains ultimate victory due to the shooting incident depends on the specific circumstances of the election at the time,” Li said. “Drawing the conclusion that the party who was shot will inevitably win the election is unscientific,” he said, noting that it is impossible to predict what might happen in the next three months of the US election. “The biggest characteristic of American elections is their unpredictability.” that in recent years, the quality of the partisan system in the US has deteriorated. In the past, the system was able to work, as most members of both parties are still moderates. Their political views are different, but they were not so extreme, and they could cooperate on many issues. “But now we can see that the Congress voting along party lines on almost every issue, and partisan politics is becoming more polarized,” Jin noted.”Americans used to be proud of the idea that they have the wisdom of compromise, which makes them differ from the extremes of the French political atmosphere. But now that they are also extreme and reckless, there is less room for moderates,” Jin said.”In addition, the gap between the rich and the poor in the US is widening, the middle class is shrinking, and social polarization is also very serious. Many specific social conflicts, such as immigration and economic policy, are very confrontational,” Jin said, and he warned that when the capitalists of the US are getting divided, there is a risk of civil war.

USAMr Biden could be locked in as the party’s official candidate as early as July 21, squashing the possibility of challengers

The Democrats may stamp out suggestions that Joe Biden could be replaced by a younger candidate by installing him as their presidential nominee a month before their own convention.
Mr Biden could become the party’s official candidate as early as July 21, when the convention’s credentials committee holds a virtual meeting, sources told Bloomberg.
The Democratic National Convention, where delegates gather to traditionally cast their votes for the party’s presidential candidate, is not scheduled to begin until August 19.
It comes as Democratic politicians and donors urge the 81-year-old to stand aside for a younger successor to take on Donald Trump in November’s election, following his debate performance on Thursday.
Nevertheless, Mr Biden has signalled that he intends to fight on – something he has been encouraged to do by family members, who joined him at Camp David, the president’s country retreat, this weekend.
Among the names floated to replace Mr Biden are Gavin Newsom, the 56-year-old Governor of California, and Gretchen Whitmer, 52, the Governor of Michigan.
Democrats had previously planned to nominate Mr Biden before the convention began in order to ensure he made it onto the ballot in Ohio.
The Buckeye State had set a deadline of August 7 for candidates to be certified, although that has since been moved back.
Democrats have already altered their rules on voting procedures, allowing a potential roll-call vote “before delegates have convened in-person” in Chicago, where the convention will be held.
The development would mean that Mr Biden is nominated shortly after his Republican rival, Donald Trump, who will accept his party’s nomination at the Republican convention on July 18.
The US President was widely acknowledged to have performed poorly against Trump in their debate on Thursday, as he struggled to articulate himself, mumbled, and lost his train of thought.
“I don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he said either,” the Republican said at one point.
Nevertheless, Mr Biden declared he would fight and win the presidential election in a fiery appearance at a rally in North Carolina the following day.
Members of the Biden family have urged him to continue his re-election bid while pinning blame for the debate performance on his inner circle – notably Bob Bauer, the US President’s personal attorney, and his wife, senior adviser Anita Dunn.

TrendingPro-Palestinian protests at American universities spread to more schools, as authorities appeared to lose patience and police began a forceful counterattack. Agence France-Presse said. On April 25, local time, U.S. police used rubber bullets and tear gas to drive away student protesters at Emory University, and arrested dozens of students and at least two professors. A female professor was pushed to the ground and put in a mask. Take away in handcuffs. At many universities, images of fierce altercations between police and protesters, and of students and professors being violently dragged away by police, went viral in mainstream American media and social platforms. According to Bloomberg, at least 50 universities across the United States, from Ivy League schools to local state universities, have set up tents to support the people of Gaza. Hundreds of protesters have been arrested, but demonstrations continue to spread. A New York Times commentary article on April 26 stated that protests at at least 17 universities faced police intervention. During these events, students called for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, an end to U.S. military aid to Israel, and for their universities to divest from investments that fund Israel’s wars. At the same time, similar protests spread overseas. “Columbia University is first, University of Sydney is next,” this is an on-site slogan that appeared on the campus of the University of Sydney, Australia, in support of American universities. At Sciences Po in France, protesting students blocked the entrance to the campus building on April 26, demanding that the university, known as the “cradle of French politicians”, clarify its position on the Gaza war.

The New York Times reported on the 25th that since the Columbia University arrests set off a wave of opposition across the United States, more than 400 demonstrators have been detained by police on campuses across the United States. Reuters stated on the 26th that according to statistics from the media, nearly 550 people have been arrested during protests held on major university campuses in the United States. U.S. police said on the 27th that they arrested about 100 people during protests at Northeastern University.
On Thursday, police stormed the usually peaceful campus of Emory University in Atlanta and used what police later called “chemical irritants” to quell demonstrators, the New York Times reported, adding to the growing number of pro-Palestinian protests sweeping U.S. campuses. The latest conflict between movements. The Atlanta Police Department said officers were met with “violent resistance” while responding to the school’s call for help. On the same day, more than 20 Ohio State University students were arrested and charged with trespassing after they refused to leave a pro-Palestinian camp. On Wednesday night, Boston police arrested 108 protesters at Emerson College. Hours earlier, Los Angeles police arrested 93 protesters at the University of Southern California who refused to leave. On the same day, police entered the University of Texas at Austin and arrested 57 people.

未分类The powder keg in the Middle East has been ignited again! On April 1, a day that seemed like a joke, a serious military conflict occurred: Israeli fighter jets bombed the Iranian embassy in Syria.

Immediately afterwards, Iran sent a strong counterattack signal. As a result, within 24 hours, even the Israeli air force base and the US military base were hit. This series of actions quickly escalated the situation and brought tensions in the Middle East to new heights.

This past weekend, the situation in the Middle East experienced dramatic fluctuations. On April 1, a group of Israeli F35 fighter jets suddenly launched a bombing on the Iranian embassy in Syria. This action can be said to be the first bomb that broke the silence and directly triggered the subsequent series of conflicts.

Unfortunately, the airstrike killed 13 people, including two senior generals. As soon as the news came out, it was like a heavy stone was dropped on a calm lake, causing waves to immediately rise. Major countries such as China, the United States and Russia have expressed their stances one after another, and even the United Nations Security Council has held an emergency meeting. The eyes of the world have focused on this tense land.
Iran’s response was swift and violent. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a statement on April 2, not only expressing condolences for the dead soldiers, but also sternly stating that Israel will pay the price for its actions. The Iranian Foreign Minister even named the United States. After all, Israel has the support of the United States. The implication is that the United States must also bear responsibility for this action.

Subsequently, events developed faster than many expected. Less than half a day after the attack on the Iranian Embassy, Iran’s ally, the Iraqi Shia militia, used drones to attack the air base in Tel Aviv, Israel’s second largest city.
The Alrabiya website reported that the group also threatened to continue attacking Israel until they “see hell.” The U.S. military base in Al Tanf in Syria was also not spared and was attacked by suicide drones.

It is worth noting that although the United States stated immediately after the incident that it had no knowledge or involvement, the angry Iranian armed forces did not calm down. What’s more, some US officials privately revealed that Israel did inform the United States before the operation, but did not specify the target. This kind of specious notification makes people wonder whether the attack on the United States is really “unjust.”

Against this smoke-filled background, Israel’s actions do not appear to be directed only against Iran. On the same day, Israel also carried out air strikes in the Gaza Strip, killing seven charity organization workers and injuring many others. This series of events undoubtedly sent a clear signal to Iran: They are concerned about Iran’s influence in the region and are ready to take action.
What happened next was even more eye-catching. Late at night on April 2, an air defense siren sounded over Tel Aviv, indicating that drones from Iran’s allies were attacking Israeli air bases. This attack is not only a military response, but also symbolizes Iran’s strong dissatisfaction with the measures taken by Israel.

At the same time, the American base on the other side was not spared. The fighting suddenly spread to U.S. military bases in Syria. Fighters at the Altanf base were awakened by nighttime explosions, an attack by suicide drones used by local militias. Although it did not cause a large number of casualties, the attack undoubtedly served as a warning to the United States.
This series of attacks and counterattacks not only had a significant impact on the military, but also caused violent fluctuations at the political level. The international community’s reactions to this sudden conflict have been very different. Some countries have called for calm, while others are secretly gearing up. The civilians in the Middle East are once again involved in the vortex of the game between great powers.

This incident once again made people realize that in the geopolitical chessboard of the Middle East, every change in the situation may trigger a chain reaction. And every conflict invisibly rewrites the future of this region and even the world.
Faced with this sudden challenge, leaders from all over the world are looking for solutions. Under the skies of the Middle East, not only drones and fighter jets are flying, but also trials and competitions between various forces. Among all the calculations and predictions, the most difficult to estimate are the fears and hopes in the hearts of ordinary people.

Today, the smoke has not cleared, and analysts generally believe that this is just another outbreak of the long-standing conflict in the Middle East. In this land, peace is so fragile and war is so easily triggered. Under such a situation, both the government and the private sector are preparing for possible larger-scale conflicts.

Every conflict in the Middle East is the focus of global attention. This time, the contest between Iran and Israel seems to have started a new round of games. In this world full of uncertainty, we can only pay close attention to the development of the situation and hope that the dawn of peace will once again illuminate this ancient and war-torn land.

未分类 A forest fire that broke out on the 2nd in the Valparaiso region in central Chile is still spreading. President Boric said that the area of affected land is increasing rapidly. As of the 4th, the disaster had killed at least 56 people and left hundreds missing.
“The burning ashes hit us like raindrops.” Pulga, a disaster-stricken resident, described the disaster scene as "hell" in an interview with AFP. According to Reuters, from the 2nd to the 3rd, the area affected by wildfires in Chile increased from 30,000 hectares to 43,000 hectares, and black smoke billowed over the Valparaiso region, where nearly one million residents live. The country's Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development said 3,000 to 6,000 houses were affected by the fire.

According to CNN, approximately 372 residents of the Valparaiso region are missing. Chilean Interior Minister Toha said the death toll would continue to rise in the coming hours. He also said that this was the worst disaster to hit Chile since an earthquake in 2010 that killed 500 people.
Chile is currently in a state of emergency. Areas such as Viña del Mar, Kilpue and Alemana near the fire have implemented curfews on the 3rd, a move the government said would help keep roads open. Chilean authorities said the area around the coastal tourist city of Viña del Mar was hardest hit.
According to the Chilean “El Libero” website, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Toha said that they believe it may have been caused by humans. According to CNN, at least one man has been detained in connection with the wildfires. According to reports, the man was doing welding work at home and accidentally caused a fire that spread to nearby areas.
Recently, South American countries such as Chile, Argentina and Colombia have been enveloped by heat waves. According to Spanish newspaper El Pais, from January 21 to 25, Chile’s capital Santiago reached record high temperatures, and Colombia announced that it was extinguishing forest fires.
Climatologist Cortes told El Pais that January is the traditionally hottest month in South American countries, and high temperatures are normal. What is abnormal is the recurrence or persistence of high temperature weather, which is closely related to the El Niño phenomenon. She said that under the influence of El Niño, the maximum summer temperature in the region may be higher than normal and the cumulative precipitation will be lower than normal.
Another country experiencing heat waves due to El Niño is Australia. Reuters reported on the 4th that Australian weather forecasters issued heat wave warnings to New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, the Northern Territory, and Western Australia, saying that temperatures in some areas may reach 40 degrees Celsius. The Australian government has warned that El Niño is adding to the risk of bushfires during an already dangerous fire season.
